Similarities

First of all let's discuss how these rules are similar:

1) The intent of the rules themselves

OK, why exactly do we have these rules. Both rules were designed to protect the hapless offensive team from being tricked into the easy double play situation by the defense. In both cases, we need to recognize what type of batted ball we are looking for, and whether or not there is a chance for a double play.

2) The three keys to identify situation

a. Less than 2 outs;

b. Fair pop-up (not a bunt or liner);
