But enough of the pros. That's Carl's job. Let's get on with the prose from the high school viewpoint, or as it is better known in 48 states (2 states use the OBR) and most of the protectorates, FED. (Rhymes with "dread.")

Play nice and make sure everyone has a turn

Unlike the majors, FED's primary stated purpose for adopting the DH was not run production, declining attendance, or a surplus of aging fielders with bad knees but good swings. FED welcomed the move to DH because it provided another outlet for participation. FED has long excused its tinkering with baseball's hallowed rules by pleading two sympathetic goals: safety and increased participation.
