n Part I, I started to tell about my coming "career" by describing some of the things I learned during training and how my first game went when I was on the bases. This next interlude will be about my first appearance behind the catcher (instead of being him) and how I almost managed to give up on "calling" completely.

The excitement

Now if you remember, I told you that I had wanted to umpire for about a year now. It all kind of came into place when I ran into a friend whom I had met when I was playing in a tournament in McAllen, the largest city near where I live.
