herever you are on the diamond when you make that provocative call — you know, the one that gets the steam rushing from a manager’s ears and the red "mercury" under his skin rising above his eyebrow level — DON’T, whatever you do, return to your position ready for the next play!
You need to meet this angry guy on neutral ground. You certainly don’t want to be near the coach’s box if he’s the offensive manager.
You need to be somewhere that gives you a legitimate excuse to leave when you’ve heard enough. If you’re back in position for the next play, you’ll have nowhere else to go without looking like you’re on the run and just can’t handle the heat.
You need to be well away from that manager’s dugout, so his emotional supply lines can’t be refuelled by some anonymous "supporter" in the background.
