or those who are not familiar with the term, the FYC (or "F*** You Call") describes the exercise of a pseudo-ethical option by the umpire in order to keep a player, and sometimes a coach, in the game in the interests of the game itself. While I believe the term was first coined by Carl Childress, nevertheless I’m positive the FYC option would have been well exercised long before Carl was born.

Childress: The autobiographies of umpires from the 1890s show they were not loath to retaliate when required. "Strike!" yells Tim Hurst. "Crap!" yells the ball player. "You might as well call everything a strike." "I will," snaps Timmy and strikes the batter out on the next two pitches. "I never again had trouble with him," writes Hurst.
