hese days plate umpires are required to first render a decision on a half swing, IF they have clearly observed both the half swing and any attempted check. In this section we will assume the UDP Mechanics for the Two-Umpire System [ cf. Section 10.9 Procedures for Check Swings]. There is certainly some variation from those mechanics applicable for NFHS (FED), if not for NCAA (College) games. In FED there is no requirement for the plate umpire to ask for help on a half swing although many experienced NFHS umpires still do so as a matter of course.
