closed out Part II with a couple of examples of how I had witnessed coaches taking advantage of incompetent umpires. I further described how to manipulate an umpire into being biased against the opposing team. None of those methods involve anything crude like money changing hands between coach and umpire. (grin)

Stupid umpires, smart coaches

No phrase is more common in umpire circles than “stupid coach!” Around the bar as we describe our glory days to other umpires, we have beat that horse to death. As part of the original discussion on McGriffs that was the catalyst for this article, the phrase “stupid coach” was used at least three times.
