riday night I went to dinner with my usual basketball partner, Duane. We’ve worked a dozen or so varsity games together this season and will probably work 20 or so together next season.
What made Friday night unusual was that Duane had picked up a last minute game with another official who, coincidentally, worked with me the previous Friday night in a girls’ varsity game in a conference I’d never worked. Neither of us had met this official before, but this common point of reference made for an interesting conversation over dinner.
