have no doubt that arguments concerning the need for deciding ties in baseball have been around as long as the game has been played. For many reading this article, Jimmy Dugan, the hard-nosed coach in A League Of Their Own, might well have proclaimed sarcastically "Ties? There’s no ties in baseball" instead of callously outlawing the humble teardrop! The two are equally anathema in some baseball circles. And on a certain philosophical level those who echo that myth are correct — baseball has only safes and outs; not ties!
