n For Love Of The Game when Billy Chapel (aka Kevin Costner) stood alone on the mound and intoned "Clear the mechanism," he unwittingly gave us all a sharp insight into the fundamental workings of a human male’s brain. As a male, Billy’s brain had evolved over the millennia to allow him to focus all his senses on only one key objective at any one time. That is called concentration, and in humans it is a legacy of the male’s pre-historical social role as the hunter. If a hunter couldn’t focus on the kill, his family probably wouldn’t eat. It was a matter of survival, a simple evolutionary imperative.
