ccording to Allan and Barbara Pease: "Take a brain scan of a[ man’s] head while he is reading and you’ll find that he is virtually deaf." The implication is that his compartmentalised brain will switch almost all sensory and interpretive resources to the compartment governing his eyesight, thus leaving his hearing department with only an extremely limited ability to interpret and respond. Most of you guys know that’s true, and you should also now understand why that drives your wife to distraction, right? She simply doesn’t understand why you can’t listen to her, watch TV, and read a book all at the same time. After all, she can!
