I closed out Part VIII by describing my 1996 career of purposeful ejections. At that time, I was doing fewer than 10 college-level games a year. Most of my games were youth ball or recreational baseball. When I got an important game from the assignor, I left my Mr. Hyde personality at home. Likewise, if you are to start your career down that path, it should be in a youth-ball environment. With the shortage of umpires in that arena, they will rarely fire you. And besides, who cares if they do?

Deliberate trouble making makes you more confident

Think back to the last time a coach came out to you on a baseball field. Doubt crosses your mind as you think that you might have blown the call. The baseball coach can see your self-doubt. Haven't you ever observed your partner as a coach approached him at an accelerated walk or run? Your hapless partner has all kinds of body language that telegraphs he is unsure of himself.
