Clothes really do make the man – or at least they help

K, let’s get one thing straight. This column is not designed to increase sales at Gerry Davis Sports. It would be nice if you called in to get something, but I’m not on your screen to pitch our products. I will point out several things to help you be reasonably comfortable on the field when the weather is far from ideal.

There’s a reason those things are in our catalog – they work! But if you do some digging, you can find most of it in other places.

Hoods. Let’s take it from the top. We’ve all learned or been told that in cold weather the human body loses at least 20% of its body heat through the head. If you don’t wear a hat, you’ll be VERY cold VERY quickly. Most umpires routinely wear hats. That’s good. But those hats do not cover your ears, face, or the back of your neck. Each is a critical area to protect and keep warm.
