Wrap up down south
Lower body. Layering is still vital, you’re just not going to wear as many. Frankly, the vital body organs are predominantly above the waist (OK, no sophomoric humor here). From the waist down you’re a lot more muscle and less in need of insulation.
Most umpires wear either shorts or tights under their game trousers. These days the garments are more than long underwear. Made of a Lycra-based fabric, they provide support by compressing against the skin and muscles to improve circulation and prevent fatigue. In addition, the good brands (again, McDavid and Under Armour) draw moisture away from your body. Even under your trousers, they promote evaporation and the ones made for hot weather create a cooling effect. If you have not tried those garments, you should.
