his season, which is ending soon here in Canada, is my 25th as an umpire. I started as a 13-year old kid and have learned a great deal over that time. However, my real education began when the internet boards sprung up in 1996, giving me and many others an opportunity to be exposed to a great deal of knowledge, both good and bad. In addition to the public boards, I am involved in a private group, which has helped to improve me immensely as an umpire.

So, why should a guy who has umpired for 25 years continue to spend hours learning about the craft? The answer occurred in a 5 second span on August 12.
