I bring up "blarge" because this entire article deals with a definition, though of a somewhat more mundane term. I've pulled "play" out of the baseball lexicon. That's because when the first play by an infielder results in a dead ball, all runners are awarded two bases measured from the bases occupied at the time of the pitch.
Note: There is an exception in all rulebooks to the dictum above. It's not relevant to this article, but to avoid criticism, I'll include it: If all runners have made a base at the time of the throw, the award is measured from the bases occupied at the time of the throw.
