Making awards generally is a simple matter, isn't it? Learn the rules and you can't go wrong.
When a ball goes dead, these are the big six:
- a pitcher's throw from the rubber: one base;
- any throw by a fielder: two bases;
- a batted ball: two bases;
- interference with a throw by detached equipment: two bases;
- interference with a batted ball by detached equipment: three bases; and
- preventing a batted ball from going over the fence: four bases.
