Friday night: meet and greet the class

irst, a bit of history behind the Beach Cities Pro Umpire Camp. Camp Coordinator Dave Davies is an evaluator for several local umpiring organazations. Davies critiques officials for the Independent Baseball Officials Association, which handles several youth leagues as well as USSSA. He also works for the Orange County Baseball Officials Association, which covers high school baseball. He recently began covering junior college ball. All Leagues are in the Southern California area.

Davies came to know Evans by attending his Desert Classic in 1994, 1995, and 1997, attending the Academy in 1998. Davies went back to the Classic in 2003. Davies and Evans held the first BchPUC clinic in 2002. Davies felt it was time for BchPUC 2004.

The first session was on Friday night at the Moose Lodge in Huntington Beach. Check-in was at 6 p.m., with students receiving their camp shirts, name tags, and camp cirriculum.
