Money ball
hat's what I call baseball summer tournaments, money ball. Why?
First, the tournaments are not sponsored by the normal summer leagues such as Little League or a locally run recreation league like Bear Creek in North Tarrant and Dallas counties.
Second, if a parent thinks that his boy is talented enough to play in a more competitive atmosphere, that parent will pay extra dollars for his boy's membership on any team that wants to use his talents.
Third, even more dollars are required for the weekend and sometimes week-long tournament entry fee.
My conclusion, therefore, gleaned from several years of sitting out in the parking lot while either strapping on my gear or peeling it off, is there are several entrepreneurs who can put thousands of dollars into their pockets simply by organizing a tournament or a team to play in a summer ball setting.
