n Part I, Bill told us: "The left-handed pitcher picked off the runner at first. I'm all over it. It was close but I had a good look at it. F3 got R1 on the elbow just before he got back to the bag. So I give it the big punch-out."
By all accounts, Bill had good position. He tracked the ball, he saw the tag. But as we all know now, Bill missed the fact that the ball was on the ground.
Timing, timing, timing
Until Bill called out R1, things were just fine. But his out call started a chain of events that brought the game to a quick end. Since this started it all, we have to ask ourselves: "How did Bill get this wrong?"
As I told you, Bill is no Smitty. But like all of us, Bill made the mistake we have all made at some point in our careers.
He was too quick.
