ame three was played on a miserable night. It was raining — but not enough to cancel. You know, that constant mist — with the occasional shower. On this night, Andrew was on the plate, or "sticking it," as some say .
Andy had been at first during game one, and he, too, was amazed to see Bill's lack of action. Andy is also a red-ass umpire. He has a quicker trigger finger than I!
By this time, you have probably guessed that there were some ejections. Read on to find out what caused them. And how many.
My zone
The one thing that will get most umpires in trouble behind the plate is the constant bitching about balls and strikes. In game one, Bill allowed a player, basically, to say: "Ump, you're nuts!" This continued in game two with Mikey wandering out of the box to protest a strike call. That action eventually led to the benches' clearing.
On this night, that wasn't going to happen.
The fun began early. In the top of the second, a Truro batter entered the box, with his team down 3-0. On the mound was Vince Horsman, who pitched for three MLB teams during his prime. Vince has great control of his pitches and is always around the plate. On a 2 and 2 curve ball, Andrew called the batter out on stirkes. It was obviously close so that "protect the plate" was in order.
