I've begun several articles recently with, hopefully, humorous tales of my running misadventures. It is mostly a bid to get you motivated to hit the highways and byways and prepare for the upcoming season. But, as I learned recently, running is not the only way to get a good workout.
Saturday morning, I was all prepared to skip my regular run in the name of having a good sleep in. What ruined it was an early morning phone call. I had entirely forgot a previous commitment to volunteer at a local campground. With a sigh, I put on my work clothes and headed out the door. Twenty minutes, and one amazing, beautiful drive later, I was signing in and wondering what inane drudgery awaited. I was assigned to help clear fallen timber from an amphitheater.
