s August wound down, I was heading to Alberta to umpire in my tenth Canadian National Championship Tournament. This year I would be working the Canada Cup, which brings together the best 16- and 17-year-old players from around the country. This event has been a breeding ground for many of the current MLB players from Canada. So I knew the baseball would be good.
In a fog
I say, I knew the baseball would be good — if I ever got there! My travels started on a dubious note, with planes being delayed in Halifax by fog. I was fortunate, as my plane finally did get out, and I arrived in Medicine Hat later that day. The Nova Scotia team ended up taking 16 hours to make the trip, which included three flights, two buses, and one flat tire!
