Orderly

ASO knows how to expedite the high school playoffs. They turn it over to the University Interscholaastic League (UIL). In the same way that local chapter game assignors are bossed by the local coaches, so when it comes to determining who's better than whom, the local assignors turn their jobs over to the coaches and, ultimately, the UIL. Coaches tell us who they want to work their playoff games. Then, when the district, bi-district, and regional teams are located, the UIL decides the scheduling for the final, championship games of the season. It's orderly!

History is our friend. When there were no umpire organizations strong enough to provide consistent and competent umpires, each high school looked out for its own advantages and for its own umpires. That included locating "favorable" ones. Whether they were favorable to the game or to the schools is unknown. I don't want to go there. I don't speak ill of the dead nor of any fellow umpire, living or dead, including Mr. C.
