Golf!

closed Part III with golf, so I will begin Part IV with golf. My game is great. I can plant on my left leg, confident that my left knee will not fall out from under me. For a right-handed golfer, enormous lateral pressure is put on the left knee as he swings through the ball. I have not been able to swing with confidence since the early 1980s when I blew out an ACL.

I shot 74 last week and won a tournament. It was my best score since February 1978, when I shot my one and only par round of 72. In addition, the course in 1978 was a lot easier than the course I played last week. On the other hand, the equipment I used last week compared with 1978 is like comparing an AK-47 to a musket.

My knee is so solid that I feel if I took a blow to my knee, the ankle or hip would be the bone that breaks. The artificial knee is less flexible that the real thing, but it feels a lot sturdier.  That is my impression, anyway. Orthopedic surgeons may have a different take on the matter.
