Thesis sentence appears

n the previous article (click the title above to re-read it), I talked about batters illegally leaving the box and pitchers illegally licking their fingers. In my area — and I’ll bet a dollar to a penny it’s the same in yours — those are common infractions you’ll find in abundance at every game.

If you remember, I was engaged in a three-way, five-hour scrimmage. The balk business came in the fourth (I was still behind the plate) and fifth (I’d moved to the bases) hours.

For ten years I taught college rhetoric and composition. One of the techniques I taught was for the writer to provide a thesis sentence early in any piece of informative discourse. In short, tell ‘em what you’re going to say right off the bat. (pun not intended)

So here’s my thesis: Coaches don’t get anywhere near the most they can out of a scrimmage.
