American Legion Rules — Part I

Officiating.com's contributing writer Tee Christensen helped fan the flames when he announced that Oregon would use NFHS rules for Legion play. I announced those were "like" the rules we used in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Others agreed: FED rules, rule.

The contrasting arguments

Pro FED: "It's for the kids!"

Legion ball gives the players something to do besides show up for "7 on 7." So if they play baseball, why not do it under the aegis of the rules they'll use during the high school season?

Example: Luis takes a called strike one, steps out of the batter's box to glare at the Blue, who says - glaringly: "Get in the box!" Luis doesn't comply, so he's charged with a penalty strike for being out of the box with both feet. Anyway, that's what happened when Luis played JV ball.
