Play 2: R3 strays six or eight feet from the base on a short pop fly to the second baseman on the outfield grass. (Too short to tag up, but too deep to ignore a potential drop.) The second baseman fires the ball to third, and it's caught by the fielder while standing on the bag. R3 slips back onto the base before F5 can tag him. Ruling: Safe!
Remember? It's not obvious to players — or fans — that R3 is illegally off the base, so the tag is required.
