Pick-up Games — Part I
Who, what, where, and when

Who played?

It was a three-team "tournament." Game 1: Falfurrias v Bishop. Game 2: Falfurrias v Edinburg. Game 3: Bishop v Edinburg. The organizer called them "pick-up" games, meaning they're something like a scrimmage in preparation for August tournaments.

Consequently, you already know these are select teams. The players' parents pay money so their kids get instruction and competition. The idea is they will play better come the spring varsity season. Occasionally, in my area, the team "owner" will accept some freshman players headed for a jv team in March. Of course, they have to prove their qualifications, which are parents with deep pockets.

Do I sound cynical? Well, isn't it like that where you work?
