A double play possible 

The OBR speaks of the "obvious intent to break up a double play" (7.09g/h) and "where a double play might have been possible" (7.09h). The meaning of those passages has been the subject of much debate — among internet umpires, if not rules committees.

Some authorities (Bremigan, Childress) hold that "possible" means "so configured."


Play 39:

R2 heads for third on a ground ball to short. He's out when he deliberately prevents F6 from fielding the ball. Ruling: Award B1 first: A double play isn't possible. (Compare Play 41.)
